Candle Care & Use
To get the most out of your handmade candle and enjoy a clean, long-lasting burn, follow these simple tips:
First Burn Matters
- The first time you light your candle, allow it to burn long enough for the entire surface to melt from edge to edge. This typically takes 3-4 hours, depending on the size. Why it matters: Wax has a "memory," and if you extinguish the candle too early, it may start tunnelling, burning down the middle and wasting wax on the sides.
Trim the Wick
- Before each use, trim the wick to about 0,5cm. This prevents black smoke, reduces soot, and keeps the flame steady.
Burn Time
- Do not burn your candle for more than 4 hours at a time. Let it cool and reset between uses. Burning for too long can cause the wick to "mushroom," the jar to overheat, or the wax to degrade, affecting fragrance and safety.
Keep It Clean
- Make sure the wax surface is free of debris like matches or wick trimmings. This helps maintain a clean, safe flame.
Extinguishing Your Candle
- The safest way to extinguish your candle is by using a candle snuffer. Avoid blowing it out, which can cause smoke and hot wax to splatter. Dip the wick into the wax to extinguish and then straighten it again- this reduces smoke and makes relighting easier.
Let It Cool Before Moving
- Always let the candle cool and solidify fully before moving it or trimming the wick. This protects both you and the candle vessel from accidents.
Burn Safely
-
Always place your candle on a heat-resistant surface, away from drafts, flammable objects, or children and pets. Never leave a burning candle unattended. Never burn a candle all the way to the bottom- leave at least 1cm of wax to protect the jar.
Soy and olive waxes are made from renewable, plant-based sources, making them environmentally friendly and biodegradable. Unlike traditional paraffin wax, which is a by-product of petroleum, our waxes don’t release harmful toxins into the air. Soy and olive wax is 100% plant-based, providing a safer and more natural alternative to paraffin, which contains toxic substances like toluene, benzene, and formaldehyde. These chemicals, over time, can lead to serious health issues when inhaled, especially with prolonged use.
